Waffle house was originally a concept that came out of an early form of the game, Super Waffle, which was first released in the early 80’s. Later, in the early 90’s, the developers took the idea of waffle house and ran with it. The first game in the series was actually called Waffle House, though the name stuck. With the waffle house series, they introduced more colors and flavors (including waffles).
